What is Spring Cleaning?

Spring cleaning is a time of the year when people get to clean out their homes, closets, and offices. It is a good time to rid of all the accumulated clutter and start fresh. Spring cleaning not only clears out clutter but also freshens up your home, gets rid of odors, and helps you stay organized. Start with a thorough scan of your home. You’ll get an idea of where everything is and what needs to be done. Tackle one room at a time and work on an area that needs the most attention first. While some spots are obvious, there are many areas that are commonly missed.

Top 6 Things You May Have Missed When Spring Cleaning

Here are tips on how to clean the top 6 overlooked areas when spring cleaning your home to help you achieve a renewed and rejuvenated space:

1. Cleaning Your Mattress for Spring

Spray down your mattress with an antibacterial fabric spray and allow it to dry. Baking soda is a natural alternative for cleaning your mattress. Sprinkle it on and vacuum it up after letting it sit. You can also use a steam cleaner to kill any dust mites or other microorganisms in the mattress.

2. Cleaning Behind the Toilet

When you’re scrubbing down your toilet bowl, clean behind the toilet too, this area often gets forgotten but harbors germs and mold.

3. Cleaning Inside and Behind Your Microwave

Clean out your microwave by removing the turntable and roller ring and washing it separately. Gently scrub the inside of the microwave with soapy water and wipe it down with a soft cloth. Pull the microwave forward and wipe it down at the back and underneath to clean up the dust and old food that might have fallen around it.

4. Cleaning Your Blinds and Curtains for Spring

Dust and dirt will accumulate on the window coverings, making them look dingy, dirty, and worn. Blinds are easy to clean with a water and dish soap solution. Take down your curtains and wash them in a gentle cycle in your washing machine. Check the care tags first to make sure they are machine washable.

5. Cleaning Behind, Under, and Inside Your Fridge

Empty your fridge, throw out any expired foods, wipe down the inside of your fridge with soapy water, and wipe down with a soft cloth. Pull your fridge forward clean behind and under your fridge to remove the dust or any food scraps that may have fallen. Vacuum the condenser coils to remove dust and lint.

6. Cleaning Your Light Fixtures

Light fixtures collect bugs and dust over time. One way to combat this is to wipe it down with a wet rag or remove and wash the globes when spring cleaning your home.
